The Rules of Meem As Saakinah


Q: How many states does Meem As Saakinah have?

 

A: Meem As Saakinah has three states:

 

1: Al Idghaam

 

2: Al Ikhfaa’a

 

3: Al Ithhaar

 

Al Idghaam


Pronounce the Meem As Saakinah with a complete Idghaam if you find a followed by a Meem, this is called Idghaam Mutamaathilain example:

 

 

لَهُم مَّثَلاً

And

 

لَكُم مَّا فِي الأرْضِ

And

 

وَلَكُم مَّا كَسَبْتُمْ

 

Al Ikhfaa’a


Pronounce the Meem As Saakinah with Ikhfaa’a when it is follow by Baa.  This is called Ikhfaa’a Shafawee, example:

 

تَرْمِيهَم بِحِجَارَةٍ

And

 

وَ هُم بِالأَخِرَةِ

And in all similar cases.

 

Al Ithhaar


Pronounce the Meem As Saakinah with Ithaar when it is followed by the rest of the letters of the alphabet.  However, the Ithhaar with be stronger when the Meem As Saakinah if follow by Waw and Faa.  The Ithhaar of the Meem As Saakinah is called Ithhaar As Shafawee, example:

 

وَهُمْ فِيهَا

And

 

عَلَيْهِمْ وَ لَا الضَّآلِّينَ
