Tomorrow
Today, Tomorrow,
Tomorrow, Today,
Do you know what some of the troubled youth say?
They say, “I’ll be good tomorrow, do as I should tomorrow,
Today I have to do me,
Tomorrow, I’ll be right;
Today, I’m going to be wrong,
Tomorrow, I’m going to listen to the Qur’an,
Today, I’ll listen to songs,
Today I’m on my grind, my hustle is strong,
Tomorrow I’ll do right, today, straight wrong…
Yeah, I’ll pray tomorrow, fast tomorrow,
Yeah, I’ll be good; be good tomorrow,
Tomorrow, tomorrow”
But let me interject,
Do you think today can’t cause tomorrow’s sorrow?
“But tomorrow I’ll be in the Masjid,
Today it’s the club,
Today I’m ill, tomorrow I’ll chill,
Tomorrow I’ll smile, today it’s a grill”,
Again I interject, cause still,
Because still, your young eyes have yet to see,
That all of these things in which you say you’ll do tomorrow,
The way in which you think you’ll… be tomorrow,
These are things, of which you cannot be sure,
Like when you leave though that door,
Shall you too… return though that door?
Can you really be sure?
Sure that you’ll see the start of another day?
That when you close your eyes to sleep,
Will they again open so that you can play?
Can this you guarantee?
Can you guarantee that you’ll have time to get serious?
So why do you still feel secure to play… today?
In truth, it is only to yourself that you lie,
And with your own soul that you play…
So you play and play and say what you say,
But what good is tomorrow… if you die today?
