The Rules of Noon As Saakinah and Tanween


Q: How many states do Noon As Saakinah and Tanween have?


A: They have four states:


1: Al Ithhaar


2: Al Idghaam


3: Al Iqlaab


4: Al Ikhfaa’a







Al Ithhaar


Q: What is the meaning of Al Ithhaar in the (Arabic) Language and jargon (of the science of Tajweed)?


A: As far as the language (Ithhaar) means to be apparent. In the jargon of the science of Tajweed it means to pronounce every letter from it point of origin without Ghunnah.


Q: What are the letters of Al Ithhaar and how many are there?


A: Al Ithhaar has six letters:


ء ه ع ح غ خ


These letters have been collected in the first letter of each word in the following line of poetry:


أخي هاك علما حازه غير خاسر


This brother here of mine has knowledge; his possessions will not be lost.



Q: What are some examples of this?



A: An example of the Noon with the Hamzah is:


مَّنْ ءامَنَ


An example with Tanween and Hamzah is:


رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ


Both of these examples are examples of the Noon and Tanween Followed by a letter of Ithhaar in two separate words. An example of Noon As Saakinah in one word is1:


يَنْئَوْنَ

An example of Noon with Haa is:


إِنْ هُوَ


An example of Tanween with Haa is:


جُرُفٍ هَارٍ


These are two word examples, an example of Noon with Haa in one word is:

 

يَنْهَوْنَ


An example of Noon with an ‘Ain is:


منْ عِلْمِهِ


An example of Tanween with ‘Ain is:


سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ


These are two word examples, an example of Noon with ‘Ain in one word is:

يَنْعِق


An example of Noon with Haa is:


مِنْ حَسَنَةٍ


An example of Tanween with Haa is:


عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ


These are two word examples, an example of Noon with ‘Ain in one word is:


يَنْحِتُونَ


An example of Noon with Ghain is:


مِنْ غِلٍّ




An example of Tanween with Ghain is:


عَزِيزٌ غَفُورٌ


These are two word examples, an example of Noon with Ghain in one word is:


فَسَيُنْغِضُونَ



An example of Noon with Khaa is:

مِنْ خَيْرٍ



An example of Tanween with Khaa is:


قَوْمٌ خَصِمُونَ



These are two word examples, an example of Noon with Khaa in one word is:


وَالْمُنْخَنِقَةُ


1 Note: Tanween can only be followed by a letter from the letters of Al Ithaar in a two word construction due to the fact that Tanween is only found on the ends of words.
