I never dreamt about homeschooling my children, when I thought of my children’s education I always thought they would go to school. I searched and searched reluctantly I found no suitable alternatives. I had already begun schooling my children, in hope of finding a suitable school for them I started my search. I was unable to find anywhere suitable, therefore I continued schooling as I always had been and started looking for a way to homeschool permanently .
I guess I began as most homeschoolers, wanting a box curriculum. Everything in its place, leaving nothing out 8 subjects 8 books and a lot of stress. As more responsibilities and children have entered our home I began to look for ways to make sense of a now very stressful process. I made du’a, consulted other homeschoolers, surfed the web, and took lots of breaks until I ultimately came up with a realistic, livable homeschool. I realized that the traditional school model has a lot of problems and therefore I really didn't want to imitate it. I realized that my children's character was as important to me as their education and was actually a very core part of their education. I realized that our religious values should paramount everything that they do and that I should be preparing them for real life. With all of that I began to make chores a fixed part of our day this was done before we started school, my children, my home and myself must be clean and organized. School is incorporated with household chores so that learning is practical. I make the learning revolve around the interests of the kids for better retention and I have calmed down quite a bit, realizing that they only have one childhood and we all want to enjoy it.
