Sweet Fruits from the Life of a Scholar Translated by: Abu ‘Abdis Salaam Siddiq Al Juyaanee The great teacher, scholar of Hadeeth, the leader of the people of the Sunnah of his time, Imaam Al Albaanee (may Allah have mercy upon him) said when speaking auto-biographically, “I did not finish school. This was due to my father (may Allah have mercy upon him) who perhaps by doing this struck a target that he was not necessarily aiming for. (I say this) because from what I have witnessed, had I finished the “Academy School System” I don’t think I would have accomplished that which I have accomplished and become who I am today (and Allah knows best). This is because “the Western Styled School System” could never produce scholars. This school system however, could (facilitate and in some aspects) make easy the way for the one who wishes to persist in the research of many different disciplines; however, (the attainment of this accomplishment) is extremely rare (when looking at) the graduates of this system. Thus, my father (may Allah have mercy upon him) did not agree with this “Western Styled School System” –which he had right not to agree with it- because it does not teach the Sharee’ah.
