"O you who believe! Fear Allâh and keep your duty to Him. And let every person look to what he has sent forth for the morrow, and fear Allâh. Verily, Allâh is All-Aware of what you do." (Al-Hashr 59:18)

Seven Keys to Comprehension PDF Print

Reading is a part of our everyday life. We are constantly reading and gaining comprehension of things all the time. One of the first things we do as homeschoolers is to teach our children how to read. As parents we strive to ensure that our children have the necessary comprehension skills that are needed, as they advance in reading. Therefore, I would like to share with everyone the seven tips I am learning from the book: Seven Keys to Comprehension by Susan Zimmermann and Chryse Hutchins.

The Seven Keys to Comprehension are:

1.      Create mental images

2.      Use background knowledge

3.      Ask questions

4.      Make inferences

5.      Determine the most important ideas and themes

6.      Synthesize information

7.      Use fix up strategies

This book is not a long read it contains 200 pages. The book entails a breakdown of each key and provides a detailed meaning for each one. Included with each key are tips, ideas and sources that you can use. This is a very interesting and beneficial read.  I would recommend this book to all homeschool parents, schoolteachers, and parents who would like to improve their Child's comprehension level or just to begin with these strategies for a good foundation.
