broom.jpgAs we begin our journey towards homeschooling, our focus often shifts off of the house and onto the children.  This is to be expected, but the cleanliness and organization of a home has a powerful affect on a person's mood.  If you have a home that is tidy you will be in a good mood and will be able to focus but, if your home is disorganized and cluttered this will have the opposite affect, your mood will be one that is negative.  In order to have a healthy teaching experience the environment around you must be conducive to generate peace and tranquility.

Organization to some comes natural but to most of us it takes effort.  I remembered when I first started to homeschool my children I was delirious.  I didn't know if I was coming or going.  I was stressed with trying to ensure I was providing my children with the proper education while at the same time trying to be a good Muslim, wife and mother.  Although I was able to teach my children my house was desperately suffering.

I didn't know what to do, I was baffled.  I knew that I had to make a change, and the realization hit me like a ton of bricks, I had to become organized.Little by little I started to buy items that would make the task ahead of me easier.

How did I do it?  That's the question that I will answer within the next few lines.  Remember everyone is built differently but we all have the same wants and needs; part of those wants and needs is to be the best that we can be.

Tips for keeping your house organized

1. Recognize- First you must realize what the problem is.  Once you put your finger on it then you can begin.

2. Contemplate-  Find a nice quite spot in your home and write what needs to be done.  Then organize your thoughts and put them in order of importance to you.

3. Work- Start your list, after you have done one thing cross it out and move to the next.  You will start to notice the difference in your house but also within yourself.

    a) Gather some plastic storage bins, if you need substitute with what you have perhaps garbage bags.

    b) Label the bins: things to keep, garbage, donate, and not sure.

    c) Begin sorting room by room.  Work on one room at a time as this process can take many days depending on how much stuff you have.

    d) One you have finished with the room throw the items that are in the garbage bin in the trash.  Grab a bag and put the items you will be     donating, in it and get it out the room ( if you have a hall closet put it in their not the basement, you might lose it).  As for the items you are     keeping start organizing them.  Put them in their proper place.  Finally you have one bin left the oh so "not sure", time to make up your mind     either save or trash.

Organizing can be a family affair.  Children love to help and feel important.  Teach your child/children how to organize their things, have patience you  may need to do this more than once.  Your house is clean and organized now it is up to you to figure out a schedule that suits your household; to decide when and how much time needs to be spent per day, week, or month on each room.

On the authority of Abee Maalik Al Haarith bin Al Haarith Al Ash'aree (radiAllahu anhu): The Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu alaihi wa sallam) said: "Cleanliness is half of Emaan..." part of a hadeeth collected by Imaam Muslim
